Bird sizes vary. Treat the 9-12 figure as a guide: up to 9 average-sized hens or up to 12 smaller birds. Check the 120 × 125 × 100 cm overall dimensions against your birds, planned roosting arrangement and access to a suitably sized outdoor area.

Caring for the timber
Before prolonged exposure to heavy rain, apply a suitable non-toxic, animal-safe wood preservative or water repellent, paying particular attention to roof edges, eaves and joints. Clean the coop regularly and re-treat the timber as needed. Positioning it in a reasonably sheltered part of the garden will also help preserve its appearance.
